Velvet’s wooden limbs hang loosely from frayed strings, her painted face cracked but still smiling faintly. Once she danced under the bright light of a stage, but now her movements are slow and unsettling, her strings tugged only by the drafts of the attic. A faded velvet dress clings to her frame, moth-eaten and worn thin. Though her head tilts with grace, her eyes seem to follow in ways they shouldn’t. Velvet waits patiently, knowing that all strings lead back to the Toybox.
